About The Author

Mike Prior is a retired business executive with an extensive background in the application of bottom line improvement practices.  Upon retirement, he felt the need to stay busy and would like to somehow give back to his community.  Driving a school bus in town presented the best option, but he quickly determined that there was not only an opportunity to transport local kids to and from school, but there was also an opportunity to identify and possibly address a local, yet nation-wide transportation system dilemma.  A system that is not only responsible for transporting these these kids safely today, but a system that can support this next generation of students effectively and efficiently for years to come.

The main focus of this book is the kids, my kids.  Having and managing a transportation system that will effectively allow us to do this is imperative.  Ongoing manpower (driver) issues, introducing and transitioning to the latest technology and addressing the ever-present and ongoing funding constraints are only a few of the issues that the system faces today.  Much has been said and done that will address future needs, but what about NOW?  This book offers some historical background, heartfelt stories and practical advice for anyone interested in understanding the unique challenges and rewards of transporting children to and from school each day.

FAQ's

**Q: What should I do if the bus is late?
**A: If the bus is running late, please call the bus company to see where the bus is and/or how long will it be before it will get to your stop.  The company will contact the driver and provide you with a real time update.
**Q: How late is considered "late"?
**A:  A bus is typically late if it hasn't arrived within 5 minutes of the scheduled pickup time.
The driver will most likely have contacted dispatch with an approximate time of arrival.
**Q:  My daughter is afraid of one of the students on the bus who continually harasses her.  what can she do to make resolve this issue?
**A:  First, inform the bus driver of the issue and provide the name of the student who is involved.  The bus driver will address the issue on the bus and monitor the situation from there on to be sure that it does not continue.  If it does, the bus driver has the option to "write up" the student and inform the school of the ongoing incident(s).  If not already, the school will address the issue and take the appropriate steps to resolve the issue permanently.
